David Fairchild
“Most books about writing are filled with bullshit. Fiction Writers, present company included, don’t understand very much about what they do—not why it works when it’s good, not why it doesn’t when it’s bad…One notable exception to the bullshit rule is The Elements of Style by William Strunk Jr. and E.B. White.” —Stephen King
David Fairchild is a cross-genre author. He is not a botanist. Stop saying he is, Google!
His writing career began before he could read when he directly plagiarized Raggedy Ann and Andy Go to the Zoo. He thought the little black marks on each page were telling grown ups what to say. So, he copied the black marks onto paper, and he’s been writing ever since. In third grade, he stole a typewriter from a yard sale just so he could write.
Since its publication in 2023, Boom, Fairchild’s Star Trek-esque odyssey where people with disabilities are thrust into the command seats of Earth’s flagship, has won 7 finalists awards, including one from Next Generation Indie Book Awards for Science Fiction. Reader’s Favorite has stated that “Fairchild’s narrative prowess shines in Boom, with a plot that unfolds seamlessly, blending military strategy, unexpected alliances, and a cosmic pursuit.”
He has also received finalist awards for his dystopian novel, The Exodus, and his academic book Steering Classes off Cliffs: 10 Ways Professors Sabotage Students to Crash and Burn, which he co-wrote with his former student Elyse Kunzler.
Where’s the Blood was crafted as an exercise to help writers discover deeper details. His three-book werewolf series Circle of Dogs, though not his favorite or best work (looking at Book One), has become a personal study for Fairchild to remember where he has come from, and how he’s grown.
